DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

The DAREN News is late getting out this week.  I was busy with the Wood County Emergency Communications activities this weekend.  The biggest activity was the BINGO games at the Parkersburg Homecoming.  At about 1:00 am Monday morning we had all of the equipment disassembled, removed from the Homecoming area, and parked at their parking spaces.

I hope everyone who went to the WV ARRL State Convention Saturday had a good time.  I wanted to go, but since I was busy here in Wood County I couldn't make it this year.  The Wood County Emergency Communications group was presented a plaque and certificate for being the top point organization for the 2008 Simulated Emergency Test.  Charlie Dotson, WB8NSL, said that he would bring the items back to Ritchie County and present them to myself when I go the Ritchie County LEPC meeting on Tuesday, August 25th.

Joe Forren, ND4B, has the Greenbrier County NODE/PBBS of GREEWV/FAIRWV back on the air.  I checked it out last week when posted the DAREN News and State Wide DAREN Net Announcement on it.  The station seems to be working just fine.

I also got to check out the Hampshire County NODE/PBBS of HAMPWV/RMNYWV when I posted last week's DAREN News and State Wide DAREN Net Announcement.  The station seems to back to its old self.

I don't know if its band conditions, or the Berkeley County NODE/PBBS of BERKWV/MRTNWV is off the air, but I haven't been able to connect to it for about three weeks.  Maybe I'll hear from someone who might know the status of the station.

Not much other news this week.  I you have something to want to pass on to others, let me know.  This DAREN News is for every Amateur Radio and Amateur Radio club, group, or organization.

There were 57 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Ray Bodie, N8TWV, who's been participating in the net since October 28, 1995, has completed 450 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  Tom White, W3JTW, needs only one more check-in to make 450.  Frank Hughes, WD8DEP, needs only one more check-in to make 200.  And, Tom Jones, N8NMA, needs only one more check-in to make 150 check-ins.  There was one station that checked into the net this week with the callsign of "0".  The station with the callsign of "0" checked into the net at about 5:35 am Saturday morning.  From the check-in list it looked like the station went through just one NODE to get to the NCS.  If you don't see your callsign on this week's State Wide DAREN Net Announcement, and think it may be yours, let me know so that I can update your participation records. I won't let anyone know who it was.
