DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com. A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours. The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'. The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.
Not much news this week, but here's what I have.
I was going to set up a Keyboard-to-Keyboard Packet station over the weekend for the Boy Scout JOTA (Jamboree On The Air), but I never made contact with the Boy Scout Leader who was interested in getting his troop their radio badge. He also wants me to teach an Electronic and Electricity Class to the troop, but I haven't heard from him about that either. He knows how to get a hold of me when he wants to do it, if he hasn't changed his mind.
There were 56 check-ins again to this week's State Wide DAREN Net. James Woods, N3AAS, who's been participating in the net since November 12, 1994, has completed 400 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate. Joe Peterson, N8DSN, needs only one more check-in to make 700. Terry, KC8TUE, and Denise Mills, KC8TUF, need only one more check-in each to make 250. And, Bob Ott, WB8OIF, needs only one more check-in to make 150. There was one station that checked into the net this week with the callsign of "ALL". From the looks of the path they took, it looks like it came from the Northern Panhandle. If you don't see your callsign on this week's Net Announcement, and think it may have been yours, let me know so that I can correct your net participation records. I won't let anyone know who goofed; I've done it before myself. I just want to make sure you get credit for your check-in. I appreciate everyone who participates in the State Wide DAREN Net every week. I notice the check-ins are getting less as time goes by. I checked over some of the records and found that on the April 6, 1996 net there were 102 check-ins, on the December 12, 1998 net there were 100 check-ins and the January 2, 1999 net there were 101 check-ins. I got to looking at some of the callsigns and found several of them who have since passed away.
