WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS, P.O. BOX 3328, PARKERSBURG, WV 26103 http://www.wc8ec.com

DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 MHz.  Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz, or to my E-Mail: wa8llm@yahoo.com.  A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and lately, before and after those hours.  The DAREN Net Announcement, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.  The DAREN News can also be found on the wc8ec.com website.

I got the information about the 29th Annual Fayetteville Hamfest.  The Hamfest, which is sponsored by the Plateau Amateur Radio Association, will be held Sunday, February 24th, from 9:00 am to until ?? pm.  The Hamfest will be held at the American Legion Hall in Fayetteville, which is across from the Fayette County Memorial Building.  Major Prizes include an Icom 220H 2 Meter Mobile, and a Vertex VX150 Handheld.  There will also be hourly Door Prizes.  For additional information contact Bill Stone WV8E at (304) 574-0975.

Randy Thomas, K8KHW, says he is trying to repair the Kantronics KAM TNC that quit working a couple of weeks ago.  Before he took it off the air, because it wouldn't communicate with a computer, it would still operate as a NODE or Digipeater.  He talked the people at Kantronics and they gave him a few ideas where to start.  He has ordered the parts, but they haven't made it in yet.  He says the TNC doesn't even know who it is now, so it must have more problems than he thought.  Randy gets a lot of lightening hits where he lives, and it may have taken more of a hit than he thought.  Maybe in a few weeks he will be able to put it back into operation.  In the mean time he has most of his Packet stations up and running, for all to use, with spare equipment but he says he's running out of spares.  I want to thank Randy for keeping his different systems up and running.  Randy says he will be leaving the country before long, and will be gone for a month or more.  He will be leaving all of his stations operational while he is gone, and hope they will still be operating when he gets back.

That's all I have for this week.  If you have anything to pass along let me know.

There were 67 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Ray Gorrell, WV8RG, needs only one more check-in to make 700.  Vivian Arnold, KA8VAH, needs only one more check-in to make 650.  Bill Bayless, KB8HEK, needs only one more check-in to make 300.  And one station used their old callsign to check into the net, but it was corrected.  Things like that happen from time to time.  For those waiting on their certificates, they should be printed up and mailed out in the next few days.  I'm getting caught up on some of my other projects. Thanks to everyone for participating in the State Wide DAREN Net and supporting the DAREN system.  73 Ken WA8LLM
