DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN Net Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.
Not much news this week, things have slowed down now since the
December 8th exercise is over. I notice the State Wide DAREN Net
was down a little bit too, but it's that time of the year when a lot of
Christmas activities are going on and operators are busy with shopping,
Christmas plays, and dinners. I've already been to three dinners
and still have another one to go to this coming Tuesday.
While I was working in my office in my garage, moving the batteries that
were under my desks, I remembered that I had a cross channel station
that Bill Davidson, N8JXO, had in operation for many years before it
quit working, and then the tower which it was located at came down
during a severe storm. The cross channel stations were operational
on 145.01 and 145.09 MHz. I think I'm going to work on the
stations and try to get the system back in operation, but put it on
145.09 and 145.69 MHz. I know that Ohio still has several Packet
stations that are on 145.09 MHz and it might help to get more Packet
operators involved with the DAREN system, since they will now have an
access to it. Since there is very few Buy, Sell, and Trade type BBS'
like there used to be, there may not be any problems with operators
crossing over from 145.69 MHz to 145.090 MHz looking for that type
system. If we have that kind of problem we can take it back off
the air. I have antennas already installed so it won't take too
long to install the system when I get it repaired. The NODE on the
145.09 MHz frequency will be called WOOD09. The NODE on the 145.69
MHz frequency will be called WOOD69. To cross over from one
frequency to the other you use the letter "X" instead of "C".
Example to cross over from 145.69 MHz to 145.09 MHz, you would connect
to WOOD69 and type "X WOOD09". From there you would be looking at
the NODEs that are on 145.09 MHz. I'll keep everyone posted when I
get the crossover system in operation.
There were 55 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.
Tricia Magyarosi, KC8VLI, needs only one more check-in to make 200.
Robert Sellars, KB2FEL, needs only one more check-in to make 50.
