DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN Net Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.

In case anyone noticed a problem checking into the State Wide DAREN Net this week, I had a problem with the NCS station.  One of my grand kids came into the radio room while I wasn't watching and punched a few buttons on my check-in computer.  I didn't know it until Ray Bodie, N8TWV, called to let me know that a few stations were getting a busy message while connecting to "NET".  What had happened was the buffer in the TNC took as many check-ins as it could and then started sending a busy message back.  When I found that something was on the screen, I pressed to clear the buffer.  All but three of the callsigns were sent to the download file.  I always keep a backup station monitoring the net and was able to see three calls that weren't on the main list.  If you checked into the net and either didn't get a connect message or don't see your call on this week's Net Announcement, let me know so that I can update your check-in record.

The DAREN News may be a little getting out next week.  On Sunday I will be leaving for a conference at Camp Dawson Sunday afternoon, and won't be back until Tuesday evening.  It depends how much news I get this coming week, and how much I get typed up a head of time.  So if you have something you would like passed on to the other DAREN users, send it to me and I'll get in the DAREN News.

I've been working on the new Roane County NODE/PBBS, and hope to get it installed either Wednesday or Thursday depending on the weather and what time I get back from the conference on Tuesday.  In any case I hope to get the station on the air next week.  On the way back from Roane County, I want to stop at the Jackson County DAREN site and change the antenna and transmission line on the NODE/PBBS of JACKWV/RPLYWV.  For the past few years the signal has been going down the tubes and the antenna looks a little beat up and should be replaced.

That's all I have for this week.

There were 57 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Ron Wilson, K8RWW, who's been checking into the net since March 27, 2004, has completed 150 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  Brad Carabine, KC8TYU, needs only one more check-in to make 200.  I still don't know who the station that checks in from time to time with the callsign of "NOCALL" is.  There have been several check-ins over the last few months and no one has said they have not been seeing their call on the weekly Net Announcement.
