DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN Net Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.

The DAREN News is a little late getting out this week.  Our Communications group was operating the BINGO games at the Volcano Days festival and Engine Show Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and I didn't get home until late Sunday evening after the event.  We had to take down our canopy, tables, and chairs and then pull all the trailers back to their parking area.  I'm also getting everything ready for our communications group business meeting which will be held on Tuesday, October 2nd.

Don't forget the monthly ARES DAREN Chatroom Net will be held this coming Thursday, October 4th, in conjunction with the West Virginia Fone Net starting at 6:00 pm, and the Mountain State Emergency Net, following the closure of the FONE net, both nets on 3865 kHz.  To check into the chatroom net, all you have to do is connect to the NODE called DAREN, which is located at the same location as the Ritchie County NODE of RITCWV, and then type the letter "T" (for talk).  The NCS will see you as you enter the chatroom and acknowledge you into the net.  The NCS may ask for comments or have you pass any traffic that you may have.  The Chatroom Net will also be in operation this coming Saturday, October 6th, during the State Wide ARRL SET (State Emergency Test).  The SET will run from 1:00 pm ill 3:00 pm, but the Chatroom Net will be in operation from about 12:00 noon, or earlier, until the SET is over.  To leave the chatroom, you need to type a /ex.  After you are out of the chatroom, just type a B (for bye) and you will be disconnected.  The DAREN chatroom is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Give it a try at any time to see how it works.

The State Wide DAREN Net NCS (Net Control Station) was located at the Buckwheat Festival in Preston County this past week.  Lrry Slagle, KB8CVP, reported 50 stations that made it into the net.  Because some operators are unable to find their way to the Preston County NODE, I saved a file of all the stations that I could see at my location.  I monitored 8 additional stations trying to get to the NCS, but was unsuccessful.  Everyone needs to remember that the Net Control Station for the State Wide DAREN Net WILL NOT ALWAYS be located in Wood County, it might be located in another part of the state, so you need to read the DAREN News, and look at the weekly DAREN Net Announcements that are posted on about every DAREN PBBS so you can be caught up with activities that is happening.  John White, W3JTW, who's been participating in the net since November 7, 1998, has completed 350 check-inll be receiving his certificate.  Terry and Denise Mills, KC8TUE and KC8TUF, need only one more check-in each to make 200.  There was three new stations that checked into the net this week, and they are: Gary Bosworth, KC8ZZS, from Marietta, Ohio, Ray Johnson, KC8RUJ, and Carol Johnson, KC8TUD.  I want to welcome them to the State Wide DAREN Net.  They have been checking into the ARRL ARES District 3 Packet Net held every Sunday, but this is their first time checking in the State Wide Net.  I want to welcome them to this net, and hope to see them more often.
