DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN Net Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.

I went to the ARRL State Convention at Jackson's Mill yesterday and meet several of the DAREN operators.  Those I got to talk to, and remember, were: K8CHW, K8RWW, K8ZPR, KB8CVP, KB8TBF, KC8HUP, KC8ODI, KC8TYK, N8ER, N8HGL, N8NMA, and WV8RG.  I hope I didn't miss anyone on the list, but if I did, you know that I talked with you for awhile.  I also saw N8PER's car, but I didn't get to talk to him.  I was glad to see and talk to everyone yesterday.   Bob Tuckerman, W3RUA, called me Thursday t let me know the Pendleton County NODE/PBBS of PENDWV/FKLNWV was off the air, and that Gene Roy, N8ER, was going to the mountain to get it back on.  At the Mill yesterday Gene let me know he got the station back in operation.  He took everything he thought he might need, but was lucky and found the power was off due to a bad circuit breaker.

Larry Slagle, KB8CVP, said that he would be the Net Control Station (NCS) for the State Wide DAREN net on September 29th at the Preston County Buckwheat Festival.  The main NODE or Digipeater to reach the NCS for that net will be the Preston County NODE/DIGI of PRESWV.  You may be able to connect to the NCS from other NODEs, but the only way to tell is to try.  Also remember the net on September 29th will only be operated during the 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm time period since the station will be set up at the Fairgrounds at the Buckwheat Festival, and they have to close down at the end of the activity that day.  The Buckwheat Festival will start on Thursday, September 27th, and end on Sunday, September 30th.  It was a great festival.  If you get a chance, go to it.

During the ARES Forum at the State Convention Tina Clark, K8TAC, the West Virginia Section Emergency Coordinator, talked about the Simulated Emergency Test (SET) that will be held on October 6th.  Tina wants know if the County Emergency Coordinators would like to hold a State Wide SET, or do they just want to hold their own county SET.  Tina's suggestion for a State Wide SET would be homed around the "Western Migration" which the State Office, and County Offices of Emergency Services are concerned about.  If you would like to participate in a State Wide SET, send an E-Mail to Tina and let her know. Tina's E-Mail is: ta.clark@suddenlink.net

One more comment, Shane Harper, KD8BMX, is planning a Packet Class on October 28th.  I will have more information later.

There were 61 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Tim Davis, KC8TYK, who's been participating in the net since December 27, 2003, has completed 150 check-ins and will be receiving his certificate.  The new call for Bob Hanson, KB8QKY, is AF8RH.  There were two stations that checked into the net this week, one with the callsign of CALL-13, and the other with the callsign of NOCALL-14.  The CALL-13 checked into the net Friday evening about 8:35 pm, and the NOCALL-14 checked in on Saturday at about 7:07 pm.  The dash 13 tells me the station went through three NODEs to get to the NCS.  And, the dash 14 station went through two NODEs to get to the NCS.  If you don't see your callsigns on this week's Net Announcement, and think that it may be yours, send me a message so that I can update your check-in records.
