DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN Net Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.

Not much news this week.  And, it's also late getting out.  I haven't heard from anyone and I've been busy this past week getting ready for the Parkersburg Homecoming.  The homecoming also includes a Half Marathon, a Parade, and operating BINGO games.  I had plans to make a trip to the Wetzel County tower site on Monday to look at the NODE/PBBS of WETZWV/NMARWV, but that’s not going to happen for awhile.  I did get to talk to Randy Kinsolving, WB8OHX, at a meeting last Tuesday, and I told him I was looking for a location to install a DAREN NODE/PBBS in Calhoun County.  We need the NODE in Calhoun County so that we can get a good path from the Health Department Packet station into the rest of the DAREN system.  He told me that Miller Communications has a tower site in Calhoun County and that I could install the NODE/PBBS at that location. Now I need to put together two new Packet stations, one for Calhoun County and one for Roane County.

Ted Jacobson, W8KVK, has been sending me some pretty good messages about different subjects.  One was about some weather related damage in the vicinity of Wood County and also a list of new Amateur Radio Licenses in the Parkersburg area.  Those are the kind of messages that should be sent over the DAREN system.  All traffic doesn't have to be Emergency Messages, but at least related to Amateur Radio.  I want to thank Ted for the messages.

Don't forget the West Virginia ARRL State Convention this coming weekend at Jackson's Mill.  I'm planning on being there myself.  Maybe I can see some of the DAREN operators.

That's all the news I have for now.  If you have anything that you want to pass on, send me a message and I'll get it in the DAREN News.

There were 54 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net.  Tim Davis, KC8TYK, needs only one more check-in to make 150.  There was one station that checked into the net again this week with the callsign of NOCALL-14.  The dash 14 tells me the station went through two NODEs to get to the Net Control Station.  If you don't see your callsign on this week's Net Announcements, and think that it may be yours, send me a message so that I can update your check-in records.
