DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN Net Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.
Well, I installed the Wirt County NODE/PBBS of WIRTWV/ELIZWV, but it didn't do like I hoped. I'm still unable to provide a good path from either the Calhoun County or the Roane County Health Department terminal stations. While at the Jackson County Hamfest today, I was able to make contact with a couple of people that gave me the names of some Amateurs in Roane County that may be able to help locate and install a county NODE/PBBS.
I also talked to Ray Gorrell, WV8RG, again at the Jackson County Hamfest, and he said that he would E-Mail me a list of Amateur Radio equipment that was purchased and is being installed in Tyler County. He doesn't think all of the equipment has been installed, so it may take awhile to get the information together.
I got an E-Mail from Bill Davidson, N8JXO, the other day about getting the DAREN News started back up on the Wood County Emergency Communications website: WC8EC.Com. I need to talk to him and see the best way to get the information to him. I've been so busy the last few days that I haven't had time to give him a call and talk to him on the phone.
That's all I have for this week, so if you have anything that you would like to pass along, drop me a message on either the PKBGWV PBBS, or on E-Mail at: wa8llm@yahoo.com. There were 66 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net. Paul Derosky, K8GLA, who's been participating in the net since September 6, 1997, has completed 450 check-ins. James Woods, N3AAS, who's been participating in the net since November 12, 1994, and Steven O'Dell, N8SNR, who's been participating in the net since April 2, 1994, have both completed 350 check-ins. Jim Stephenson, KE8YB, who's been participating in the net since June 23, 2001, has completed 200 check-ins. All of these operators will be receiving their certificates. I want to welcome Mike Howell, N8UXF, back to the DAREN system. Mike has been missing from the DAREN system since December 13, 2003.
