DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN Net Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.

I was able to meet and talk with Ray Gorrell, WV8RG, at the Athens Hamfest today. Ray said that he was going to put together the information about the Amateur Radio equipment which was purchased by the Tyler County Office of Emergency Services and that will be installed in various Fire Departments and other locations of the county. Maybe in a week or two we'll know where all the radio equipment be installed.

I talked to Jim Stephenson, KE8YB, on one of the MARS nets the other day, and he said that he noticed his Fayette County NODE/PBBS of FAYEWV/FAYMSG, was not in operation. He hasn't had a chance to go see what may have happened to it, but he was going to try to connect to it again after we talked. I tried to connect to it after we talked, but it was still down. Maybe he will get to look at it in a few days.

I'm planning on putting a NODE/PBBS in Wirt County at the same location that I have a Remote Receiver for the Wood County Emergency Communications 147.255 MHz voice repeater. The NODE will be called WIRTWV and the PBBS will be called ELIZWV. I know it's not needed for the Health Department terminal station that was just installed a couple of weeks ago in Elizabeth, but it might help with the Calhoun and Roane Health Department stations. From the Calhoun County Health Department station, I'm unable to connect to any DAREN NODEs anywhere. And, from the Roane County Health Department station there is a very marginal path to the Jackson County NODE of JACKWV. I hope to have the Wirt County NODE/PBBS in operation this week. I hope this might correct both problems.

There were 67 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net. Judy Peterson, N8UFQ, who's been participating in the net since October 21, 1991, has completed 750 check-ins and will be receiving her certificate. Paul Derosky, K8GLA, needs only one more check-in to make 450. James Woods, N3AAS, and Steven O'Dell, N8SNR, need only one more check-ins each to make 350. Jim Stephenson, KE8YB, and Tim Zutaut, KC8PMI, need only one more check-in each to make 200. There was one new participate in the net this week and that was Paul Roy, N8PER, from Grafton, WV. I want to welcome Paul to the DAREN system and hope that he participates in the weekly nets as often as he can.
