WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS, P.O. BOX 3328, PARKERSBURG, WV 26103 http://www.wc8ec.com

DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN Net Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.

Not much news this week, but I did get one E-Mail from Jason Parsons, KC8PFI, in Huntington. Jason wanted to know if we would like to have a terminal station at the Wayne County EOC. He also wanted to know if we could use a Hilltop/Mounta Wayne County. Anytime that we can get DAREN Packet stations in County EOCs, that just makes more reliable communications between counties, when, not if, other forms of communications are lost due to any number of things. Having DAREN Terminal Stations in EOCs also allows access to E-Mail traffic using Packet Radio and the Winlink 2000 systems. Jason says he also has access to the Wayne County 911 tower site. He says he uses the tower site for other Amateur Repeaters, and that it coverage Northern and Central Wayne County, Huntington, and Ashland, Kentucky. I'm glad to hear that Amateurs are still interested in trying to keep Packet Radio alive, and the DAREN system operational and growing. I've sent a DAREN Package to Jason for him to look over. I hope to see a station, or two, in Wayne County on the air in a few weeks or months. If there is anyone in the Wayne County area that can help, maybe Jason could use a hand, or may have some equipment to be used toward the stations.

There were 74 check-ins to this week's DAREN Net. Berlin Jones, WA8FFG, who's been participating in the net since 1993, has completed 350 check-ins. Don Hale, N8EVP, who's been participating in the net since January 8, 2000, has completed 150 check-ins. These stations will be receiving their certificates. John Peterson, K8ZPR, needs one more check-in to make 650.

That's all I have for this week. I you have anything to pass on, let me know and I'll put it in the News.
