DAREN News, are articles and information about the Digital Amateur Radio "Emergency" Network of WV, which operates on 145.69 Mhz. Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN Net Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.
Not much news this week. I think the cold weather has slowed everything down.
I've been asked why the weekly State Wide DAREN doesn't have comments on it. The State Wide DAREN Net was designed to allow operators to try different paths to get to the Net Control Station, and stay familiar with the different paths that are available, but most of the time the operators use the same path to get checked in. Before long I will have more time to dedicate to the DAREN system, and hope to add a BBS that will allow forwarding of messages from one DAREN PBBS to another. I've thought about it for a long time, but I just didn't seem to have the time to do it. I'm still trying to get all of the equipment that was damaged by the Lightening Storm in August repaired and put back in operation. I've got plenty of computers that will allow the building of the BBS, now I just need to get the program. For those who would like to have a converse type net on Packet, don't forget the converse mode station on the DAREN system that's called "DAREN". It is somewhat like a Chat room, where several stations can converse. At the present time you can access the Chat room station "DAREN" from either WOODWV or RITCWV. After you connect to the station, just type "TALK" or the letter "T", and you are ready to communicate with others who are there. To exit the converse mode just type "/EX". Then to disconnect from the station just type a "B" and you're done. That's all I have for now, so if you have any questions about the Chat room system, the DAREN system, or General Amateur Radio in general, just let me know and we will try to come up with an answer. There were 62 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net. Vivian Arnold, KA8VAH, who's been participating in the net since December 4, 1993, has completed 600 check-ins. Gladys Gorrell , KC8GIZ, who's been participating in the net since March 15, 1997, has completed 500 check-ins. And Bill Wagner, N8RSM, who's been participating in the net since May 28, 1994, has completed 350 check-ins. All of these stations will be receiving their certificates. The Barbour County Area Radio Club, WV8BC, needs only one more check-in to make 50.
