Anyone having any information about DAREN, or Amateur Radio in general, and would like to share it with others, may send it to WA8LLM @ PKBGWV on 145.69 MHz A State Wide DAREN NET is operated every Saturday from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. DAREN Net Announcements, showing the MAIN NCS, ALTERNATE NCS, NODEs accessible to both, and the previous week's check-ins, are posted by Thursday on most of the Main county DAREN PBBS'.
The Wood County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), held their all day Table-Top exercise on Tuesday, and was hosted by the Mid Ohio Valley Health Department. A few Amateurs from Wood County Emergency Communications was at the exercise, but no Amateur Radio Communications were used. However, the Amateurs did provide the telephone system which was used between the different agencies who were involved. There were several exercises that were held on Monday through Friday, since the whole week was declared an exercise week. All of the drill and exercises that were held, were based on a Pandemic Flu outbreak, and as many as 30 percent of the employees from each business could not report to work. It allowed each business to try and figure out how to keep their business in operation with that many people off sick. Comments from those who participated in the drills said that it was an eye opener.
For those who haven't been on either the K8KHW-10 or the K8TPH-10 Internet Winlink 2000 Telpac Gateways lately, don't forget they are still there. Play with them and learn how to send E-Mails through them. They may come in handy some day when you need to send an E-Mail, but don't have access to the internet. Just because you may have lost your Internet Service, doesn't mean that it is completely out. The two Winlink 2000 Telpac Gateways are located far enough away from each other that one of them should be operational if the other one is down. Randy Thomas, K8KHW, and Dick Wilt, K8TPH, are providing this service at no cost to anyone but themselves. This service may come in handy someday during an emergency or disaster, so learn how to use it. And if you happen to meet either of these two Amateurs, tell them thanks.
There were 68 check-ins to this week's State Wide DAREN Net. Roy Humes, N8RH, who's been participating in the net since April 2, 1994, has completed 500 check-ins, and will be receiving his certificate. Bub McDowell, W8OO, and Anna Hendershot, KC8JWW, need only one more check-in each to make 450. There was one station that connected to the net with the callsign of "CALL-1". That call has been changed since I received a message with a corrected cal Also the participation records for the past two weeks for that callsign have he correction. Like I said, everybody makes mistakes, including myself. If you find that you have made a mistake on your callsign, just send me a message and we will get it corrected. I won't tell who did it.
