ARES DISTRICT 3 BULLETIN NR 07.32
DATE: August 12, 2007
SUBJECT: HALF MARATHON, FINAL TOUCH UP
This is the last weekend before the Parkersburg Half Marathon and
there is still some work that needs to be done. Assignments still
need to be completed, T-Shirts picked up and delivered, and repeater
system tested out for complete course coverage. This will be the
last chance to be sure you have been assigned a Mile Marker or Water
Stop location. Be sure you have your Walkie-talkie batteries
charged or a spare one handy. The first job of the Mile Markers
operators is to help get the Stop Watches of the Time Keepers set at the
start of the race. The primary job of all the radio operators on
the course is to provide Safety Communications for the runners. If
you are advised of a runner having a problem, you need to relay that
information to Race Control, so the runner will receive the help they
need whether it's medical attention, or a ride back to the Finish Line.
At the beginning of the race, the Race Control station will turn the
Race Frequency over to the Starting Line so the timers will hear the
start of the race. When that happens, all radio operators should
not transmit on the frequency. All radio operators need to be on
their assigned location by 7:00 am, even though the race doesn't start
until 8:00 am. The Race Officials will be closing down the race
course at 7:00 am, and you may not be able to get to your assigned
location. Let's make this year's Half Marathon Safety
Communications better than last year.
