ALL AMATEURS IN WEST VIRGINIA
(INFORMATION)
FROM: WOOD COUNTY EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS INCORPORATED AND WOOD
COUNTY AMATEUR RADIO EMERGENCY SERVICES (ARES)
ARES DISTRICT 3 BULLETIN NR 07.06 DATE: February
11, 2007
SUBJECT: TRAFFIC VS INFORMATION.
QUESTION: What is the difference between traffic
and information via Amateur Radio?
REPLY: Traffic is formal message traffic between
two or more points. It is usually originated at one station and
delivered to an addressee in a printed or written record form.
Information, on the other hand, is in the form of informal and/or
second-hand reports, observations, and intercepts that may be of
interest or value to the officials involved with an incident or
function. Much can be learned by assigning operators to listening
for information during an emergency or even a community function,
writing it down, and forwarding it to the EOC, 911 Center, or other
Emergency Reporting Center. (Reissued, with modifications, of WV ARES
Zone 3 Bulletin 04.28)
